ABSTRACT Congo red dye wastewater is highly toxic and nondegradable, posing a significant threat to the environment. Hypercrosslinked porous materials (HCP) are effective candidates for removal of dyes from wastewater. In this study, hypercrosslinked polystyrene (HCPS) with high specific area (1073.08 m 2 /g) was synthesized by using waste expanded (EPS) as starting material. HCPS then modified through simple dopamine‐assisted deposition polyethyleneimine, resulting in material HCPS@PDA/PEI, which retained surface 738.36 /g structure abundant functional groups. HCPS@PDA/PEI exhibits remarkable efficacy high‐performance adsorbent (CR) aqueous solutions. The adsorption process CR conforms pseudo‐second‐order kinetic model. Further fitting Langmuir isotherm model elucidates that occurs monolayer chemical adsorption, maximum capacity 1030.31 mg/g, triple unmodified (291.54 mg/g). activation energy thermodynamic parameters substantiate nature, spontaneous, endothermic. Consequently, holds considerable promise applications treatment dye‐contaminated
