A gold mine located in western China is facing the problem of a low concentrate grade, significantly hindering its economic benefits. Preliminary assessments indicate that this caused by gangue minerals are prone to floating and sliming, necessitating suppression flotation process. The effect fenugreek polysaccharide gum (FGM) upon separation arsenopyrite (representative Au-bearing minerals) pyrophyllite (a typical mineral) was investigated; industrial potential verified through actual ore pilot plant testing. Additionally, selective inhibition mechanism FGM on elucidated. tests pure indicated has high natural floatability; thus, it cannot be separated from at alkaline pH (7–9); smaller particle sizes, especially −0.038 mm fractions, decreased recovery; can eliminate adverse large extent depression pyrophyllite. For real systems, also exhibited superior performance compared with commonly used silicate SHMP; closed-circuit showed grade increased 3.90 g/t enrichment ratio 2.53 addition FGM. As now, profits USD 1.715 M past two years improving recovery efficiency. According results contact angle, zeta potential, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron (XPS), adsorption onto surface reason for positive effect; interaction primarily involved Al sites –OH molecules.
