Mineral carbonation is a way to permanently store carbon dioxide (CO2) in cement-based materials. Demolished concrete waste and other types of alkaline industrial wastes, like iron steel slags, fly ash, slurry cement kiln dust are prospective candidates for accelerated application. This paper presents CO2 sequestration potentials, impacts the on selected properties wastes their possible applications Based analysis published research area it was concluded that porosity, volume stability heavy metals leaching different improved after pre-treatment. increases effectiveness broadness application as substitutes aggregates binders mortar concrete. The however still very limited carbonated with highest potential, namely recycled powders iron/steel slags. Besides, proper conclusions environmental benefits, an LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) which includes all phases life cycle must be performed, also lacking research.
