The influences of MgO activity and its content on the mechanical properties, drying shrinkage compensation, pore structure, microstructure alkali-activated fly ash–slag materials were investigated. Active effectively compensated for materials’ (AAMs’) shrinkage. increased rapidly with increase in curing age stabilized after 28 d. Within a certain range, material’s was inversely proportional to active MgO. higher MgO, lower AAMs under same content. values test groups 9% R-MgO, M-MgO, S-MgO at 90 d 2444 με, 2306 2156 respectively. In early stage hydration, addition reduced compressive strength. As M-MgO increased, strength first then decreased, reaching maximum 72.28 MPa an 9%. experimental group exhibited flexural strengths than those demonstrating better properties. results this study provide important theoretical basis data support optimal application AAMs. expansion agents have great potential low-carbon buildings durable materials. Further research their adaptability complex environments will promote development engineering innovative green buildings.
