The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations are at center of global political agenda to eradicate extreme poverty, achieve universal education, promote gender equality and ensure environmental sustainability between others. These goals organised in 169 indicators, which give an accurate perspective on main dimensions related with country sustainable development. To gain insight into relative position involved countries, it is necessary develop a composite index that summarises progress achievement these goals, but considering possible conflicts trade-offs individual SDGs. objective this paper introduce Goal Programming model calculate SDG index, capable overcoming some limitations celebrated approaches such as arithmetic geometric averages. proposed balances two solutions: one calculates consensus reflects majority trend SDGs, another biases estimated towards those SDGs show most discrepancy rest. applied EU-28 shows best performing countries regarding development Austria Luxembourg, while Greece Romania remain worst performers.

This paper systematically evaluates the extent to which achieving UN sustainable development goals (SDGs) is compatible with improving animal welfare. The analyses were based on discussion and independent scoring in a group of 12 participants academic backgrounds within agricultural or veterinary sciences. We considered all categories animals; those kept for food production, working companion animals, but also laboratory wild animals. strengths links between welfare an SDG scored 7-point scale, from being completely indivisible, at one end where it impossible reach both improved same time. Agenda 2030 pursues a universal approach and identifies countries in the Global South North that are need of transformation toward sustainability. Therefore, such as Germany have signed commitment to implement Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, SDGs be “translated” specific national context. Existing sustainability indicators monitoring reporting systems adjusted well. Our paper evaluates how three different initiatives translated SDG 11 (“Make cities human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, sustainable”) German context, given role contributing sustainable development. These included official ‘National Strategy’ Government, scientific initiative led by ‘German Institute for Urban Affairs’, project carried out ‘Open Knowledge Foundation’, non-governmental organization (NGO). This article aims analyze global goals addressing urban developments contextualized on level. findings demonstrate only few original targets used context; thus, major adjustments been made according main challenges identified Germany. Furthermore, our results show current contextualization development still ongoing, more changes commitments made.
