Nitrogen plays a crucial role in plant growth and defence mechanisms, yet its plant-pathogen interactions is complex remains largely unexplored, especially perennial crops. This study aimed to investigate the effects of controlled nitrogen nutrition levels on disease incidence, fungal communities, physiology metabolism. Esca widespread grapevine vascular affecting physiology, xylem integrity Naturally infected Vitis vinifera L. cv. 'Sauvignon blanc' were subjected three ammonium nitrate treatments across seasons, resulting reduced esca incidence under deficiency compared with medium levels, while excess had no significant impact. significantly impacted vine leaf metabolites but did not affect wood communities. stem diameter, photosynthesis, area, likely decreasing whole-plant transpiration, increased these factors suggesting key transpiration incidence. Additionally, led higher production phenylpropanoids, particularly antifungal flavonoids, metabolomes level. These findings highlight pivotal development through alterations morphology, Fertilization practices may be management diseases.
