The hard tick Ixodes ricinus transmits a variety of zoonotic pathogens, including Babesia divergens, the most common cause bovine babesiosis in northern Europe. In endemic areas, cattle are rarely clinically affected, as animals up to age nine months resistant against relevant clinical disease and develop protective premunity. However, outbreaks immunologically naïve herds may lead considerable losses. Such an outbreak with high mortality rate occurred 2018 on German beef production farm, previously reported. present study provides update epidemiological situation management strategy farm. spring 2022, blood samples were taken from 46 for PCR serological testing before pasture turnout. Although no cases had been noticed since 2019, B. divergens DNA was detected by quantitative real-time (qPCR), followed amplification sequencing 18S rRNA gene, 6.5% (3/46) samples. Presence anti-B. antibodies confirmed 26.1% (12/46) animals, while further 10.9% (5/46) borderline antibody titre. status 23 these already determined and/or 2020, revealing fluctuating titre patterns indicative repeated pathogen exposure. Moreover, 457 questing I. specimens collected farm's pastures 83 detached screened spp. qPCR, rDNA sequencing. Endemisation 0.9% (4/457) positive ricinus, ticks Babesia-negative. includes annual metaphylactic treatment imidocarb dipropionate during main exposure period spring. fluctuations persistent infections at end housing indicate that absence is primarily due rising level Metaphylactic seems be suitable option protect newly acquired animals. endemisation also public health significance, located close tourist destination popular hiking area.
