Background: Dukku and Kalgo rivers in Kebbi, Nigeria, provide essential ecosystem services such as drinking domestic water, fishing, farming. However, the safety of these terms microplastic pollution has not been investigated. This study aimed to characterize determine concentration associated risks microplastics both rivers. Methods: Microplastics were extracted from water samples through filtration analyzed using spectroscopy microscopy. Results: Significant concentrations detected River showed ranging 125.00 160.30 particles/liter, while ranged 119.30 134.70 particles/liter. Both predominantly contained fibers fragments, with comprising highest percentages (61% 56% River). sized between 0 100 µm, whereas River, sizes 500 1000 µm. Polyamide was dominant polymer, constituting 50% 42.50% followed by polyethylene (34% 25.60% River), polyvinyl alcohol (24.40% 23.50% The predominant risk level posed polymers III (moderate risk), although polyamide a IV (high risk). load index (PLI) for exceeded one, indicating high risk. Conclusion: Microplastic poses ecological health risks. Identifying mitigating sources entry into is crucial reducing exposure levels.
