Accurately quantifying the proportions and distributions of reaction products is crucial for interpreting mechanisms microstructure evolution in alkaline activated fly ash/slag paste. However, existing techniques are limited their ability to provide a comprehensive visual analysis. This paper presents versatile energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) image analysis that enables enhancement, phase extraction, component classification alkaline-activated materials (AAMs) -irrespective nature quality element mappings. The proposed methodology effectively removes detection noise inherently existed EDS images, subsequently reinforcing accuracy clustering extraction procedure allows obtaining proportion pores, products, unreacted solid precursors (SPs). Moreover, further categorization SPs. By analyzing ratios shortest distances, chemical compositions spatial various could be revealed. Through application different schemes, consistent tendency was obtained, validating practicability reliability this methodology.

Alkali-activated slag concrete (AASC) with odium silicate-bonded sand (WSSS) is a potential solution to mitigate the environmental impact of traditional cement. However, its feasibility for structural applications has remained uncertain. This study examined WSSS substitute fine aggregate in AASC compared natural aggregates and Quartz sand. The exceeded compressive strength suggested practical purposes. alkali activator concentration influenced concrete. optimal 5% 6% increased strength. In addition, type significantly affected strength, performance, erosion rate alkali-activated mortar presence strong was remarkable highlighted as low-cost, durable alternative AASC. offers promising more environmentally friendly construction materials.

ABSTRACTBinder is the main cost burden in cemented paste backfill (CPB) and an obstacle towards fully green mining technologies. In this work, improved, low-cost, efficient, binder with steel slag content up to 50 wt% was presented for mine backfill. The hydration CPB hardening properties were experimentally investigated. Results show that SS (50 slag, 35 blast furnace 15 desulphurisation gypsum) has highest 28-day strength of 2.21 MPa, which 2 times higher than Portland control (0.98MPa). less heat a slower longer deceleration stage duration. products are mainly ettringite amorphous gel. substantial gel-like obtained from multiple activation processes mystery outstanding strength. process can be divided into fast hydrating stage, compacting potential refining stage. findings help better understand improve solid waste valorisation sustainable development mining, mineral processing, iron making industries.KEYWORDS: Cemented backfillsteel-slag binderhydration propertieshardening propertiesgreen technology AcknowledgmentsThe authors thank National Key Research Development Program China [grant number 2022YFC300461], Natural Science Foundation 52130404] their financial support.Disclosure statementNo conflict interest reported by author(s).Additional informationFundingThis work supported [2022YFC300461]; [52130404].
