There are currently no approved vaccines against the opportunistic pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Among vaccine targets, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) O antigen of P. aeruginosa is most immunodominant protective candidate. 20 different antigens composed repeat sugar structures conferring serogroup specificity, and 10 found frequently in infection. Thus, one approach to combat infection by could be generate immunity with a cocktail that includes all these serogroups. Serogroup O9 1 serogroups commonly infection, but it has never been developed into vaccine, due part acid-labile nature polysaccharide. Our laboratory previously shown intranasal administration an attenuated Salmonella strain expressing O11 LPS was effective clearing bacteria preventing mortality mice following challenge Consequently, we set out develop using similar approach. Here, show triggered antibody-mediated immune response conferred protection from murine model acute pneumonia.
