Individuals inherently seek social consensus when making decisions or judgments. Previous studies have consistently indicated that dissenting group opinions are perceived as conflict demands attitude adjustment. However, the neurocognitive processes of adjustment unclear. In this electrophysiological study, participants were recruited to perform a face attractiveness judgment task. After forming their own face, informed purported (either consistent inconsistent with judgment), and then, critically, same was presented again. The neural responses second faces measured. evoked larger late positive potential after than those did not conflict, suggesting more motivated attention allocated stimulus. Moreover, elicited greater midfrontal theta (4-7 Hz) power consistency opinions, cognitive control initiated support Furthermore, mixed-effects model revealed single-trial predicted behavioral change in Conflict condition, but No-Conflict condition. These findings provide novel insights into underlying adjustment, which is crucial during conformity.

Abstract The tendency of all humans to experience loneliness at some point in their lives implies that it serves an adaptive function. Abstract Adolescents' perceptions of parent and peer norms about externalizing behaviors influence the extent to which they adopt similar attitudes, yet little is known how trajectories perceived are related personal attitudes across adolescence. Neural development midline regions implicated in self–other processing may underlie developmental changes influence. Here, we examined whether neural during self-evaluations would be associated with behaviors. Trajectories adolescents' were longitudinally functional neuroimaging (n = 165; ages 11–16 years three waves; 86 girls, 79 boys; 29.7% White, 21.8% Black, 35.8% Latinx, 12.7% other/multiracial). Behavioral results showed less permissive than own behaviors, whereas more effects that increased from early middle Although younger adolescents reported when spontaneously tracked ventromedial medial pFCs self-evaluations, this effect weakened as aged. No brain–behavior found tracking norms. These findings elucidate change parallel adolescence underscore importance spontaneous for buffering particularly
