Bio-based platform chemicals are of great significance to future green fine and commodity chemicals. This study reports the performances mechanisms solvothermal dehydration levoglucosan (LGA), main precursor from noncatalytic pyrolysis cellulose with a yield up 80 wt %, levoglucosenone (LGO) using cesium heteropolyacid salts at catalyst in DMSO solvent. Catalyst characterizations revealed that was well doped cubic heteropolyacids, doping ratio substantially influenced catalytic toward LGO. LGO first increased then decreased increase ratios, which is consistent change trends pore structures Brønsted/Lewis acid site ratios salts. obtained maximum 41.2% over Cs2H2SiW12O40 compared 39.2% Cs2.5H0.5PW12O40. The can be regenerated by calcination without losing its performances. In addition, density functional theory calculation used reveal mechanism for formation, rate-determining step reaction energy barrier 166 kJ/mol.

5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) is regarded as an important representative of biomass-derived platform chemicals due to its multiple functional groups, including a hydroxyl group, aldehyde and furan ring within molecular structure. Chemoselective hydrogenolysis HMF produce high-value-added liquid fuel 2,5-dimethylfuran (DMF) has emerged prominent area research nowadays.
