Seawater desalination is one of the most widely used technologies for freshwater production; however, its high energy consumption remains a pressing global challenge. Both development and utilization sustainable sources are anticipated to mitigate shortages associated with seawater while also effectively addressing environmental issues linked fossil fuel usage. This study provides comprehensive overview classification evolution traditional technologies, emphasizing advancements, progress, challenges integrating various into process. Then, cost, efficiency, systems driven by discussed, it found that even reverse osmosis (RO) technology fuels has CO2 emissions 0.3–1.7 kgCO2/m3 lowest cost desalinated water as 0.01 USD/m3, suggesting necessity urgency applying energy. A comparison different carried out. The results reveal although system lower efficiency higher than system, more potential from perspective protection development. Furthermore, single source multi-sustainable sources, hybrid energy, Considering factors such consumption, economic scale, impact, integration still effective strategy solve shortage, crisis, pollution at present in future.
