District heating is one of the main strategies for providing heat supply buildings in cold climate countries. However, large parts current prefabricated pipes these networks are reaching end their technical service life. Replacing a time-consuming procedure and requires huge investments. Predictive Maintenance (PdM) promising strategy to deal with situations optimize prioritize maintenance activities. This paper surveys different PdM approaches considering difficulties implementing PdMs district (DHNs) compared other energy sectors. It demonstrates that methodology unique each DHN according distinctive characteristics, environmental factors, resource type, available data, equipment, factors. To best authors' knowledge, this presents first comprehensive review focused on various aspects developed DHNs, including data analytics, prediction models, integrated technologies facilitate implementation DHNs. A thorough discussion state-of-the-art real-world challenges presented, potential research avenues provided.

About 50% of Italian households’ overall energy consumption is satisfied by natural gas, mainly for space heating, leading to substantial CO2 emissions. In Italy’s mild climate, fourth-generation district heating (4GDH) networks coupled with renewable sources (RESs) could represent a viable option reaching the ambitious decarbonization objectives set EU. this paper, such pathway, consisting in centralized heat pump (HP)-powered 4GDH network, and without addition distributed PV plant, assessed compared individual gas boilers-based reference scenario. A cluster buildings, comprising 200 dwellings, representative common households Rome, has been chosen as case study. Starting from cluster’s hourly demand, semi-dynamic MATLAB/Simulink model developed size technological components evaluate their performance respect outdoor environmental conditions. The scenario comparison carried out means techno-economic indicators: levelized cost (LCOHE), emissions, carbon avoidance (CAC). Moreover, sensitivity analysis address uncertainty regarding main economic parameters, namely electricity price HP DH investment cost. results show that 4GDH-based layouts significantly reduce at expense LCOHE. highlights how significant reduction both network capital are required achieving parity fossil-fuel based

The article discusses issues related to the actual condition of pre-insulated (PI) pipelines district heating systems (DHS). Some in operation are approaching their estimated service life, so issue further use is relevant. aging supply occurs due various processes associated with both operating temperature regimes and oxidation. durability polymer materials used pipes can be assessed through empirical or predictive methods. For six batches PI that were at different times Minsk DHS, tests carried out according standardized parameters order determine values. most samples presented, values average cell size, thermal insulation density, compression strain stress number closed pores significantly meet requirements STB 2252–2012 for new pipes. value conductivity coefficient range 0.030 0.037 W/(m·K), which 10 % higher than required Values shear strength limit pipe construction many was less 0.12 MPa, indicating a potential risk failure structure pipe. Besides, there no specific correlation either life regime.
