Investigating and addressing fault detection is crucial for advancing the reliability, performance, cost‐effectiveness of grid‐connected inverter systems, thereby contributing to stability efficiency modern power grids. This study introduces a novel approach detecting classifying open‐circuit faults (OCFs) in three‐level neutral point clamped (3‐L‐NPC) inverters connected grid. The proposed algorithm swiftly identifies faulty switches clamping diodes using distorted current signals model predictive control (MPC), eliminating need additional hardware or complex computations. By challenge identifying specific switch under conditions, method achieves faster identification all less than one fundamental period which very good compared with recent studies considering that no extra sensors are used. Furthermore, this work demonstrates efficacy MPC tolerating OCFs diodes, showcasing its potential enhance system resilience performance. strategy significantly improves reliability 3‐L‐NPC by ensuring prompt accurate classification. Both experimental simulation results confirm suggested approach, emphasizing practical applicability real‐world grid‐tied systems.
