Abstract In recent years there has been a growing interest in biochar as an efficient adsorbent for heavy metal wastewater treatment because of its unique physicochemical properties and broad applicability. Biochar, produced through the pyrolysis waste biomass, exhibits well developed pore structure, high specific surface area, abundant functional groups, which collectively confer capacity adsorption metals. This review summarizes current state knowledge on preparation methods, properties, mechanisms removal. It highlights impact characteristics such pore‐size distribution, temperature, performance. also examines influence solution conditions, including pH, ionic strength, adsorption. The explores synergistic effects with other technologies, anaerobic digestion membrane technology, to enhance efficiency. Despite significant progress, challenges remain optimizing capacity, regeneration, recycling. study provides comprehensive insights into potential limitations treatment; it identifies gaps outlines future research directions. By elucidating relationship between performance removal, aim this is guide selection appropriate various applications.
