We developed a programmable LED array to evaluate different wavelength illumination (UV, blue, green, yellow, amber, and red) modulation schemes improve catch rates in insect traps. The device can communicate through Bluetooth® with simple Android app update the operational settings facilitate field experiments, including which LEDs operate, when operate (always, night only, or predefined intervals after sunset and/or before sunrise), change intensities/modulation during operation. used devices wavelengths catches traps for coconut rhinoceros beetle (CRB; Oryctes Linnaeus) field, as well lighting preferences of Asian citrus psyllid (ACP; Diaphorina citri Kuwayama). In both cases, insects were most strongly attracted constant UV illumination. However, CRB avoided any “visible” placed panels traps, while ACP was moderately amber. For CRB, cups at bottom panel reduced compared higher consistent observations dorsal orientation towards light observed by other researchers nocturnal beetles moths. Finally, we provide some hardware design recommendations energy efficiency similar more widespread deployment controlling effects intensity minimal pulsing, our suggest may result avoiding

The brown marmorated stink bug Halyomorpha halys (Stål, 1855), native to East Asia, is an extremely polyphagous pest that infests more than 300 plant species from 49 families. In Europe and North America, this causes enormous damage the production of economically important crops (tree fruit, vegetables, field crops, ornamental plants). Global warming favours its spread, as rise in temperature results appearance further generations pest. (nymph adult) typical Pentatomidae family by attacking host plants throughout their development (buds, stems, fruits, pods). Ripe fruits are often disfigured, later suberification necrotic spots form on fruit surface, making them accessible pathogens cause rot rendering unmarketable. increasing global importance suggests coordinated measures needed contain spread. Understanding biology ecology crucial for reliable monitoring management strategies. Most insecticides available control H. have a broad spectrum modes action not compatible with most integrated systems, so biological natural enemies has recently been emphasised. Preventing excessive population growth requires early identification effective can be developed quickly applied rapidly while respecting environment. This paper presents comprehensive review latest findings distribution pest, potential ecology, key economic importance, methods, strategies, well future perspectives sustainable measures.

The brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB), Halyomorpha halys (Stål) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), is a polyphagous pest native to East Asia and invasive in many countries. Various approaches have been used control its spread, including IPM strategies. Monitoring populations the starting point for developing an appropriate strategy. most common attractant H. based on two-component aggregation pheromone ((3S,6S,7R,10S)-10,11-epoxy-1-bisabolen-3-ol (3R,6S,7R,10S)-10,11-epoxy-1-bisabolen-3-ol), combination with synergist methyl (2E,4E,6Z)-2,4,6-decatrienoate. aim of this research was evaluate effective different types adjuvants dispensers, i.e., Blister Pack, Wax Tablet, Polymers (Non-Biodegradable Biodegradable Polymers). Field trials were carried out Northern Italy, during summer autumn 2023 2024. effectiveness combinations evaluated basis number individuals caught sticky traps baited treatments, separated by 50 m each. Individuals actively collected surrounding vegetation also monitored. During first year, Non-Biodegradable Polymer performed better than others. In second captures quite similar among tested all higher control. Captures non-target bugs other Coreidae family but, cases, negligible. Under laboratory conditions, release rate chemical compounds differed depending type dispenser. Our results confirm specificity semiochemical lure towards persistence field at least 12 weeks. could be useful improving trapping, as well attract-and-kill or push-pull strategies pest.

Our review draws attention to a suite of tactics that form the integrated pest management (IPM) approach being developed for use in apple, pear, and cherry solve new continuing problems. Tactics include development cultural practices, behavioral tools, spray programs, biocontrol. All these have be embedded seasonal programs heavily dependent on insecticide sprays. Some approaches are conflict with sprays, adjustments made. Many actions support current hopefully will make more less reliance pesticides. Others tools can adopted gain knowledge guide rational decision-making. The twenty-first century is nearly quarter done, our suggests we made good progress there remains much do.
