Spatial and temporal variation in vibroscape composition in two grassland habitats
Abstract
Substrate-borne
vibrational
signaling
is
one
of
the
oldest
and
taxonomically
widespread
forms
animal
communication.
For
many
animals
natural
environment
(vibroscape)
an
essential
source
information
underlying
their
behavioral
decisions;
however,
structure
dynamics
vibroscape
composition
habitats
largely
unexplored.
We
studied
in
eutrophic
lowland
hay
meadow
a
sub-Mediterranean
dry
karst
grassland.
The
results
obtained
by
simultaneous,
multi-channel
recordings
showed
that
changes
throughout
day
from
to
day,
differs
between
plant
species,
depends
on
spatial
position
within
habitat
also
influenced
environmental
parameters.
highlight
unpredictability
high
variability
encountered
plant-dwelling
insects,
complexity
implementing
biodiversity
monitoring
based
composition.
