Behavioral factors have been identified to determine farmers' uptake of the adoption sustainable farming practices. However, coherent consideration empirically behavioral in ex-ante model-based policy assessments is still rare. This study presents an agent-based modelling framework that integrates empirical data on cognitive, social, and dispositional characteristics. Using this framework, we test quantify impact including agricultural policies aimed at promoting Thereby, apply same compare effectiveness results-based payments for climate change mitigation measures precision technologies two Swiss case studies. Learning from the experiences of other countries can support efforts to improve agricultural policies. Switzerland provides an interesting case because its policy is exceptionally targeted towards establishment sustainable production systems. We describe history and current state Swiss policy, review evaluations reforms, summarise their impact outline lessons learned for developments in countries. discuss four implications: i) some goals have been met, albeit at a high cost, so, increasing efficiency policies key; ii) there need more coherence coordination regarding different programmes (i.e. sense ‘food system policy’); iii) cross-compliance measures minimum standards receiving support) important leverage effect; iv) differentiation (e.g. by spatial targeting) farmers’ discretion over how achieve implementing results-based payments) are key future

This paper investigates the non-monetary motivations of farmers' adoption agri-environmental policies. Unlike monetary (income) motivations, drivers can not be directly observed but identified from observational data within appropriate quasi-experimental designs. A theoretical justification choices is first formulated and a consequent natural experiment setting derived. The latter admits heterogeneous, i.e. Individual, Treatment Effects (ITE) that, in turn, interpreted terms more targeted tailored policy expenditure. Causal Forest (CF) approach adopted to estimate these ITEs for both treated units. applied two balanced panel samples Italian Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN) farms over 2008-2018 period concerns policies delivered through Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). Results show how heterogeneous response associated be, thus indicating room efficient design.

Agricultural non-point source pollution control (ANSPC) is a complex, long-term and dynamic environmental protection process. In order to motivate multiple subjects participate in ANSPC, this paper constructs tripartite evolutionary game model of local government, village collectives farmers, which explores the strategic choices influencing factors different through simulation analysis. The results indicate that: There are five stable strategy points ANSPC system, can be divided into four stages based on subject interactions. We propose a variational approach to study the market penetration of new technologies under conditions spatial heterogeneity in economic factors influencing process and imprecise knowledge about their intensities. Differently from other methodologies that describe adoption terms partial differential equations, we formulate model as minimization problem an appropriate functional with fuzzy coefficients. This permits consider analysis both attractive diffusive forces drive subjective opinions policy makers actual influence exerted by these determinants on decision. Interestingly, our results show different degrees uncertainty lead significantly predictions diffusion and, therefore, methodology could be applied support strategic decisions concerning innovation plans. An application digital transition agriculture is also provided effectiveness government policies.
