Introduction Urban green spaces play a crucial role in mitigating climate change by sequestering atmospheric carbon dioxide. This study aimed to evaluate the sequestration potential of common plant species urban residential areas and provide recommendations for optimizing space design management. Methods The research was conducted four Nanjing, China, where key growth parameters 20 species, including evergreen trees, deciduous shrubs, were measured. assimilation method employed calculate per unit canopy area entire plants. Results results showed that capacities different types exhibited significant differences, with p-values less than 0.05. In terms daily projection area, ranking as follows: trees > shrubs shrubs. For total sequestration, was: Evergreen performed excellently both metrics, average being 18.0024 g/(m 2 ·d) 462.28 g/d, respectively. also observed seasonal variations, rates higher autumn summer compared spring winter. During summer, 11.975 161.744 respectively, while autumn, these values 13.886 98.458 g/d. Seasonal variations observed, exhibiting Additionally, CO concentrations monitored across areas, providing insights into spatial temporal dynamics sequestration. Discussion Based on findings, optimization strategies proposed, such prioritizing selection integration high-performing tree incorporating diverse enhance year-round contributes development sustainable planning landscape management practices, promoting enhancing resilience.

Understanding the impact of climate change and human activities on vegetation dynamics is crucial for ecosystem management. Employing Residual Trend method integrating Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) data with land use/cover, this study assesses impacts across China from 2000 to 2018. The findings indicate a consistent upward trend China's Growing Season NDVI (GSN), averaging rate 0.0032/yr. Human are primary drivers change, contributing 82.47% GSN in China, while accounts 17.53%. effect showed considerable variation different river basins, Huaihe River Basin experiencing highest (93.53%) Continental lowest (76.27%). Conversely, experienced greatest (23.73%), compared minimal influence (6.47%). results offer contribution rates each type changed unchanged use, persistent forestland, grassland, cropland, grassland forest conversion 28.65%, 22.09%, 13.76%, 4.61%, respectively. Persistent forestland emerges as most efficacious use facilitating restoration. Within forestlands Yangtze, Pearl, Southeast Basins, accounted 26.99%, 42.18%, 43.50% alterations, These provide scientific basis formulating effective management protection strategies.

Identifying ecosystem service trade-offs/synergies and their influencing factors are prerequisites for formulating scientific management strategies. We selected Dongting Lake Area as the study area, quantified four key ESs dynamics, including food production (FP), soil conservation (SC), habitat quality (HQ) ecological leisure (EL), identified relationships between paired services using Spearman correlation coefficients, analyzed how various drivers impact trade-offs synergies by leveraging spatial panel data models; we also implemented zoning superposition analysis on services, these drivers. The results showed that FC SC displayed synergy before a trade-off over period 2000–2022. FP–HQ HQ–EL initially synergy, then trade-off, again. Spatially, ratios of FP–HQ, SC–HQ, exceeded ratios, areas existed around Lake. direct or indirect effects DEM, slope, precipitation, population density have greatest effect pairs. Furthermore, DTLA was divided into unbalance, conservation, areas. These finding may provide critical insights to balance socio-economic progress in Area.

Introduction The alpine meadows of the Tibetan Plateau play a crucial role in grassland ecosystem. However, due to rapid growth and strong competitiveness broad-leaved grasses, nutritional resources living space available for Gramineae species are severely restricted this region. Broad-leaved grasses noxious weeds have evolved into dominant population, limiting production meadows. A shortage premium seeds limits ecosystem restoration efforts. Elymus nutans is regarded as pioneer plant restoring degraded dominated by developing cultivated region, demand native E. increasing. Methods Therefore, study investigated effect combinations four levels grass inhibitor (0, 0.9, 1.5, 2.1 kg·hm -2 ) crossed with nitrogen fertilizer 75, 150, 225 on seed Gannan meadow Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Results We observed that significantly ( p < 0.05) influenced fertile tillers (FT), spikelets per tiller (SFT), spikelet (SS) panicle length (PL), but not florets (FS) = 0.145). Moreover, proved except actual 0.05), demonstrating synergistic effects. maximum thousand weight (4.66 g) (365 were at highest doss fertilizer, which 1.85-fold 2.94-fold control, respectively. Furthermore, positive correlations among components. Pathway analysis showed FT made direct contributions yield. Discussion This approach (using inhibitors fertilizer) effectively reduced competition from increased proportion community composition, thus alleviating ecological restoration.

To protect forest land from loss and mitigate the global climate crisis, China has proposed a stringent natural protection plan, known as China’s logging ban (NFLB). This policy aims to halt over-exploitation of forests, restore ecosystem functions, promote regional green economic development. study uses regression discontinuity design (RDD) model quantitatively comprehensively assess effectiveness this in key state-owned regions Northeast China. Additionally, it analyzes heterogeneity structural characteristics policy’s effects on internal composition ecological systems. The empirical results are follows: (1) Ecological impacts: successfully achieved its objectives by significantly enhancing quality value services. However, also had notable adverse impact development, particularly timber supply sector, reducing conversion efficiency service values into benefits. (2) Structural analysis: effectively promoted various services, regulatory support with LATE estimate approximately 8.47 units. implementation caused negative growth output supply-oriented products, significance level was lower than 0.1. Conversely, estimates for different types GDP indicate supply-type due policy, p < (3) Heterogeneity: On one hand, simplistic singular approach prohibition may constrain values. other although disrupted majority traditional enterprise operations, business models focusing technology improvements were able impact.
