The development of mining cities has led to changes in land use and the evolution landscape patterns. Constructing an ecological security evaluation system can reflect status city areas provide planning references for these cities. This study, based on Heihe City’s data from 1980 2020, systematically analyzes spatial temporal characteristics use, patterns, levels by constructing a transfer matrix calculating pattern indices indices. results show that: 1) Forest is main type City, accounting over 50% total area. Land primarily occurred between 2000–2010 2010–2020, with characterized overall stability localized dramatic shifts, mainly involving conversion forest farmland unused land. 2) From City improved. Landscape diversity contagion increased, while fragmentation, largest patch area, average area decreased. was optimized overall, but trend fragmentation became noticeable. 3) Between level improved significantly. Driven restoration policies, southern region greatly improved, continued lower south higher north. Specifically, proportions low-security relatively increased 6.23% 9.55%, respectively. clustering evident, high-high value north low-low south. It necessary further promote protection ensure barrier function, strengthening improve levels. Additionally, continuous macro-policy regulation needed maintain long-term City. landscapes influenced economic dependence, policy constraints, environmental issues. study guidance improvements other
