Construction professionals work in silos and use traditional design construction methods. The growing demand for rapidly built high-quality is making off-site manufacturing mainstream. Studies have shown that collaboration among all stakeholders a necessary component success the of such buildings. This multidisciplinary study an existing concrete hotel aims to explore alternative structural mass timber or volumetric modular construction. To this end, reinforced floor plan Club Med de Charlevoix Quebec, Canada, was used as benchmark two different systems. first strategy investigated CLT (cross-laminated timber) glulam columns replicate system (column–slab), while second involved maximum prefabrication (volumetric construction). Both strategies can lead smaller carbon footprint. main conclusion should be designed from outset either prefabricated since major changes are required if choice made switch one other. Moreover, when systems maximize construction, various professions need included during early planning. avoid task duplication prevent neglect considerations manufacturable dimensions partition organization.
