Climate change and land-use represent a dual threat to terrestrial ecosystem functioning. In the tropics, forest conversion agriculture is occurring alongside warming more pronounced periods of drought. Rainfall after drought induces enormous dynamics in microbial growth (potential soil carbon storage) respiration (determining loss), affecting budget. We investigated how legacies affected functional (growth respiration) structural (16S ITS amplicon) responses Rain shelters open-top chambers (OTCs) were used simulate tropical cropland sites Ethiopia. reduced moisture by up 25 vol%, with bigger effect forest, while OTCs increased temperature 6°C also but had no clear forest. Soils from these field treatments then exposed standardized cycle test community traits been shaped different climate legacies. Microbial started increasing immediately rewetting all soils, reflecting resilient response indicating that communities perceived perturbation as relatively mild. Fungi recovered faster than bacteria, recovery fungal was generally accelerated soils legacy functions structures both responsive particularly enhanced not higher efficiency rewetting. Together, results suggest contrasting feedbacks determined land use, where croplands will be associated mitigated losses microorganisms future cycles drought, compared forests reservoirs remain sensitive.

Global warming is exacerbating the occurrence of droughts, which have a significant impact on society. Drought one main factors limiting development Santun River Irrigation Area in Xinjiang. Clarifying driving mechanism and spatial temporal evolution characteristics drought this irrigation area crucial for ensuring sustainable agriculture. In paper, temperature vegetation index (TVDI) used as indicator to analyze Xinjiang, well reveal influencing using Geoprobe model. The results show that mean value TVDI Xinjiang during 19 years was 0. 738, categorizing it medium drought. During period, there an increasing trend spring autumn decreasing summer. district had strong heterogeneity, overall, stronger northern part region than southern region. Over past years, light areas shifted severe classes at rate 114.9 km 2 ·10a −1 . combined effect elevation strongest explanatory power irrigated area, with q-value 0.869. study provide theoretical basis risk assessment water resource planning arid regions, reference monitoring studies similar regions.

Abstract The objective of the authors is examines drought trends in Sicily over past century. analysis focuses on nine provinces that comprise region, Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) used to identify pluviometric deficit at different time scales, including 3, 6, 12, and 24 months. Additionally, Mann-Kendall test applied check if SPI has a significant trend, especially it decreasing; as decreases, increases. The statistical approach study confirms Sicily, meteorological hydrological droughts are becoming more frequent. In addition, rising trend socio-economic been identified. It therefore necessary target mitigation adaptation measures areas most vulnerable order safeguard agricultural sector and, consequently, part region's productive activities. methods this work could be management water resources protection island's economic sectors.
