Soil nematodes are among the most significant soil-dwelling organisms in forest ecosystems. However, factors that shape distribution of soil still not well explored. Therefore, we collected samples from 20 sites along eastern transect China and sequenced 18S rRNA V9 region to reveal biodiversity nematodes. Our study found nematode richness is higher temperate mixed needleleaf broadleaf forests compared with other four vegetation regions. physiochemical properties overrode climatic be primary drivers community composition. Importantly, significantly enhanced ecosystem multifunctionality, especially bacterial biomass enzyme activities, a determination coefficient (r2) 0.23, suggesting played essential roles ecosystem.

Abstract Animal body size exhibits rapid responses to environmental variations and displays considerable variability across ecological scales, significantly influencing community assembly. However, our understanding of the extent variation its differences within soil fauna remains limited, impeding a comprehensive grasp fauna's functional ecology. Here, we aim investigate magnitude intrageneric implications for nematode assembly along an altitudinal gradient. We examined gradient spanning from 3136 4128 m in alpine mountain region eastern Tibetan Plateau. assessed contributions intra‐ intergeneric size, both among communities, using individual values. The these processes were determined through phenotypic variance ratios employing permutation tests. Our analyses did not reveal statistically significant correlations between altitude community‐weighted mean mass, regardless considering trait (IGTV). Approximately 15% communities substantial 72% can be attributed IGTV. Altitude affect IGTV or communities. Furthermore, results underscored dominant role internal filtering governing assembly, with external outside playing limited range. findings emphasize rather than attributable strong processes. These advance nematodes scales highlight pivotal shaping ecology fauna.
