Abstract The Yamuna River is a threatened resource of freshwater in Delhi, India. present study focused on investigating three important contaminants, namely microplastics (MPs), heavy metals, and fecal coliforms the surface water river, with major emphasis MPs occurrence characterization. showed an increase abundance river from Wazirabad barrage (n = 500 MPs/m3) to Okhla downstream 3,900 maximum Najafgarh Shahdara drain outfalls. White color fragmented shape were prevalent characteristics isolated MPs. Attenuated total reflectance–Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy revealed five types polymers. Heavy metals (chromium, lead, manganese, iron) at unacceptable levels most sampling sites. Due emergence issues concerning tendency actively interact pathogenic microorganisms, investigation co-occurrence such harmful pollutants very important. aimed this issue urges similar kinds investigations other riverine regions our country, as well globally, due their scarcity literature. This can further provide baseline database help Government India's efforts clean revive Delhi stretch River.

This review analyzes the main methods for cleaning up oil pollution in natural ecosystems, with a particular focus on synergy between chemical and microbiological techniques environmental remediation. While biological are green inexpensive soil remediation technique, they have major limitation their inability to clean high concentrations of toxic contaminants. The poor performance stems from cost chemicals concerns over negative effects environment. Physical also costs due energy consumption need additional treatment gases generated during decontamination, making them ineffective principle bioremediation is based microorganisms’ ability degrade complex organic compounds, such as petroleum. process described this review. combination allows higher level decontamination water even against pollutants that usually resistant degradation, derivatives. existing oil-contaminated ecosystems highly effective, require significant material implement. Additionally, discusses how joint use current future biotechnology can lead development an effective set strategies protect systems pollution. reviewed studies show hybrid biotechnological approach most method. When adopted, optimized different overcome limitations each allowing efficiencies more than 70% be achieved, given choice still depends type contaminant, its concentration, properties receiving substrate.

The abundance of metal pollutants in freshwater habitats poses serious threats to the survival and biodiversity aquatic organisms human beings. This study intends for first time assess pernicious influences heavy metals Al Marioteya canal Egypt, compared Mansoureya as a reference site utilizing creeping water bug (Ilyocoris cimicoides) an ecotoxicological model. elemental analysis showed significantly higher incidence metals, including cadmium (Cd), cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), lead (Pb), addition calcium (Ca) element than World Health Organization’s (WHO) permitted levels. Ca was measured samples determine whether exposure metals-induced oxidative stress engendered deregulation midgut tissues bug. Remarkably, increased levels these were linked increase chemical oxygen demand (COD) at polluted site. Notably, accumulation resulted substantial reduction antioxidant parameters, superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), ascorbate (APOX), along with marked rise malondialdehyde (MDA), cytochrome P450, protein carbonyl These results clearly indicate noticeable disturbance defense system due uncontrollable reactive species (ROS). demonstrated that caused disturbances tissue I. cimicoides from sites. Furthermore, comet flow cytometry analyses considerable proliferations cells apoptotic tissues, respectively, exhibiting prominent correlations, pathophysiological deregulation. Interestingly, histopathological ultrastructural examinations exposed anomalies midgut, Malpighian tubules, ovarioles cimicoides, emphasizing our findings. Overall, findings emphasize potential use bioindicator pollution improve sustainable management Egypt.
