Abstract To tackle the upcoming renovation wave, this work evaluates strategies with a life cycle GHG emissions perspective and includes time sequencing in decision-making process. A case study is used to conduct full assessment of line Swiss normative context. Improvements operational energy consumption are evaluated an model using software Lesosai considering limits from SIA 380/1. calculated KBOB data inventory 2032 methodology. The measures then examined individually carbon payback indicator cumulative over contrast budgets. Results show that sequence refurbishment steps can increase or decrease ca. 30% lifetime building. Changing fossil-fuel based heating system most impactful measure must happen as soon possible. Switching decarbonized systems reduces effectiveness subsequent but poses question availability. Fully renovating building delaying change by only 7 years compromise achievement targets.

Limiting global warming requires the effective implementation of energy mitigation measures by individual countries. However, consequences timing these efforts on technical feasibility adhering to cumulative carbon budgets-which determines future warming-are underexplored. Moreover, existing national studies budgets either overlook integrated sectoral interactions, path dependencies, or comprehensive demand-side strategies. To address this, we analyse Ireland's pathways under equal per-capita using an systems optimisation model.
