Geothermal energy is increasingly employed across diverse applications, with bridge deck snow melting emerging as a notable utilization scenario. In Jinan city, China, project underway to utilize ground source heat pumps (GSHPS) for heating bridges. However, essential operational parameters, including fluid medium, temperature, and exchange details, are currently lacking. This study addresses the thermal design challenges associated exchangers (GHE) through combination of numerical modeling field experiments. Utilizing software Fluent, refined three-dimensional multi-condition transfer analysis was carried out. Field tests based on actual operating conditions were also conducted parameters verified. The results indicate that an inlet temperature 5°C aqueous solution ethylene glycol mass concentration 35% medium suitable GSHPS in Jinan; Moreover, influence backfill material operation time efficiency revealed 10% bentonite 90% SiO 2 suggested; Finally, pipe spacing characteristics deck, transition 0.2 m given response deck. comprehensive contributes valuable insights simulation experimental environment variation, aiming advance development Jinan, China.

A large number of ground-source heat pump (GSHP) systems have been used in residential and commercial buildings throughout the world due to their attractive advantages high energy environmental performances. In particular, GSHPs constitute a proven renewable technology for space heating cooling. This paper provides detailed literature review primary aspects GSHP systems. These include technological characteristics HPs main types variations GSHPs, along with impact. Other addressed are integration other systems, as well optimal design control analysis. The important aspect system’s performance is also dealt through case studies barriers hindering further adoption buildings. Two challenges cost efficiency. Studies shown that can reach >>24% lower impact than air-source HPs, while today’s allow payback period installing <<5 years. Finally, based on above review, future prospects successful uptake discussed. It seems right steps, wide an form ‘implemented’ system become reality.

Decarbonisation of Canada's residential sector in line with our Paris Agreement will be challenging. Conventional decarbonisation strategies involve deep energy efficiency upgrades to the building envelope and adoption low carbon heating systems such as electric heat pumps. However, past retrofit programs have failed achieve either rate upgrades, or size savings required for this approach. This study used a database 38,607 home audits from Waterloo Region model emissions impacts by date construction. Modeling demonstrated greatest potential gains homes built before 1940. Building had diminishing returns between 1940 1980, lowest improvement found after 1980. Furthermore, directly electrifying pumps space water is single most impactful measure examined reducing emissions. Policies should support direct electrification all target 1980 especially Such policies can accelerate efforts maximize energy, poverty limited resources.
