International interest in using waste-to-energy (WtE) technology toward a circular economy (CE) is developing, spurred by environmental challenges such as inefficient solid waste dumping, pollution, and resource depletion. Incineration, pyrolysis, gasification, landfill, anaerobic digestion are standard WtE technologies. Although these methods have been used for many decades, all countries try to implement the best plans based on their technologies capacities. Therefore, an up-to-date comprehensive study needed evaluate existing barriers draw logical roadmap CE. this review addresses recent policies adopted developed developing Based findings, most seek cost-effective environmentally sustainable pathways CE; meanwhile, international collaboration governmental support overcome find economically viable plan both future.

Estimates show that the world generates around 2.01 billion tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) each year, which 33% is not managed properly. This demonstrates urgent need for strategies to address growing rate MSW generation worldwide. Municipal collection, treatment and final deposition are among important issues in agendas public administration. Brazil, like other developing countries has develop its political policies handle efficiently treatment. A significant part municipalities still facing serious difficulties eradicate dumping practices implement adequate routes. As a contribution, this review presents actual scenario future national plan period 2024-2040 including efforts minimization, recycling, sanitation, closure polluted landfills, incentives recovery landfill gas, composting, energy from MSW. Recent data shows generated Brazil 2022 about 81.8 million 76.1 were collected (93.0%). Of MSW, 46.4 (61%) deposited sanitary landfills 29.7 (39%) sent dumps. The recycling composting activities 1.12 (or 1.47%) 127,500 0.168%), respectively. new National Plan Solid Waste, Planares, establishes targets, elimination controlled dumps sites starting 2024 increase recovered 48.1% by 2040.

Waste pollution contributes to environmental problems, including soil erosion, health and biodiversity loss. A shortage of waste disposal sites the unexpected generation millions tons solid worldwide led adoption various thermal, physical, biological technologies convert into energy. Through several systematic endeavours in recent years, wastewater management have been effectively achieved upon sustainable pipelines, bioelectrochemical system for bioenergy production, usage nanoparticles guided remediation procedures. Bioelectrochemical systems are emerging techniques that utilize microbial electron transfer electrochemical transformation generate carbon-neutral Recent technological advancement has allowed communities play an increasingly important role systems. Microbiological (MESs) emerged as technology generating renewable energy valuable products from waste. Further, different nanotechnological approaches also being frequently used pollutants due their broad spectrum activity, enhanced specificity selectivity. Their reported antimicrobial nature against nosocomial pathogenic microbes dwelling added boon environmentalists prompting regular usage. This review article integrates updated mechanisms strategies alongside challenges opportunities.
