Enhanced biomass production and bioelectricity generation in microalgae culture medium using electrode pairings

Microalgae-based
biofuel
production
offers
promising
avenues
for
sustainable
energy
generation.
However,
optimizing
microalgae
culture
conditions
enhanced
biomass
and
bioelectricity
generation
remains
challenging.
This
study
addresses
this
problem
by
investigating
the
efficacy
of
different
electrode
pairings
immersed
in
a
medium.
Two
pairs,
Al-Fe
Cu-Zn
were
evaluated
their
impact
on
growth
production.
The
optimum
concentration
obtained
was
1.204
g/L
electrodes
with
lipid
content
15.1%
0.36V.
results
demonstrated
that
induced
high
culture,
facilitating
biodiesel
Conversely,
Cu
paired
Zn
promoted
elevated
0.95V.
research
sheds
light
potential
tailored
to
optimize
dual-purpose
biofuels
production,
contributing
advancement
technologies.
It
recommended,
among
others,
further
exploration
diverse
within
cultured
medium

additional
effective
strategies

Abstract
The
lipid
composition
and
algal
oil
content
in
red
macroalgae
play
a
crucial
role
sustainable
biofuel
bioactive
compound
production.

the
present
study,
various
extraction
methods
including
biomass
pretreatment
through
ultrasonication
conventional
techniques
such
as
Bligh
&
Dyer
Soxhlet
were
employed
for
from
Kappaphycus
alvarezii
.
Among
these
methods,

combined
with
solvent
(PT
+
SE)
resulted
highest
yield
21.5%
±
0.38%,
surpassing
achieved
by
Bligh‐Dyer
method
BD)

method,
which
yielded
19.42%

molecular

viscosity,
density
when
compared

BD
