Amidst the backdrop of fossil fuel energy crisis, development renewable sources is experiencing an unprecedented acceleration in Spain and focusing metropolitan areas. This study investigates potential for photovoltaic Spanish areas, specifically Madrid its surrounding region. Recognizing inherent challenges land use material scarcity associated with this development, research aims to quantify achievable capacity less environmental impact region, along corresponding occupation consumption requirements. A Material Flow Analysis (MFA) methodology employed project these parameters 2050. The analysis estimates a production 32,163 GWh/year, representing 79.46% projected electricity 2050 (and 41.32% final consumption). would necessitate utilization 32,169 hectares (4.01% regional area), 7139 rooftop space. Critically, 48% suitable agricultural land, 9% forest, 38% grassland scrubland 5% corresponds other uses. highlighting land-use competition. Furthermore, extrapolates requirements global scale, estimating percentage mineral reserves required comparable transition. yields estimate 0.66% aluminum, 14.49% copper, 33.13% silver. These findings provide crucial insights into geographical constraints impacting feasibility urban transitions.
