This is the first article to demonstrate negative impact of air pollution as an informal institution on firms' ESG scores with listed manufacturing firms in China from 2010 2020. It based causal attribution theory and risk perception theory. We argue that, under current rating system, issues may be overly attributed firms, resulting decreased scores. find that when PM2.5 concentration increases by 1 μg/m3, decrease roughly 0.3 points. These results remained significant after a series robustness tests instrumental variable regressions. heavily polluting industries are almost twice affected those non-heavily industries. The labor-intensive also significantly higher than capital-intensive firms. State-owned large-scale less private or small show information asymmetry important influencing mechanism. With the ongoing challenge of air pollution posing serious health and environmental threats, particularly in rapidly industrializing regions, accurate forecasting effective pollutant identification are crucial for enhancing public ecological stability. This study aimed to optimize quality management through prediction Air Quality Index (AQI) pollutants. Our spans nine representative cities (Hohhot, Yinchuan, Lanzhou, Beijing, Taiyuan, Xi'an, Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuhan) China, with data collected from January 1, 2015, November 30, 2021. We proposed a new model daily AQI prediction, termed VMD-CSA-CNN-LSTM, which employed advanced machine learning techniques, including convolutional neural networks (CNN) long short-term memory (LSTM) networks, leveraged chameleon swarm algorithm (CSA) hyperparameter optimization, integrated variational mode decomposition approach. The was developed using split ratio 8:1:1 into training, validation, test sets, achieving an RMSE 2.25, MAPE 0.02, adjusted R-squared 98.91%, training efficiency 5.31%. further externally validated other eight cities, yielding comparable results, above 96%, below 0.1, 7.5. Additionally, we random forest identify primary pollutants contributing levels. results indicated that PM2.5 most significant while PM10 dominant Hohhot, Lanzhou. In Wuhan, both were critical, ozone also identified as major pollutant. not only advances predictive accuracy models but aids policymakers by providing reliable tool strategic planning at reduction. integration these computational techniques monitoring practices offers promising avenue mitigating pollution-related risks.

ABSTRACT Background Rapid urbanization in China has raised significant public health concerns, particularly regarding residents' physical and mental well‐being. Effective interventions are urgently needed to address these issues. Objective This study evaluates the impact of China's Healthy City Pilot Policy (HCPP), introduced 2016, on improving outcomes examines demographic differences mechanisms driving effects. Methods Using data from Health Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) 2011 2020, a difference‐in‐differences (DID) approach was employed, along with propensity score matching (PSM‐DID), placebo tests, sensitivity analyses for robust results. Results The HCPP significantly enhanced pilot cities, leading better self‐rated health, lower medical expenses, higher life satisfaction, reduced depression. These benefits were most pronounced among elderly, women, less‐educated individuals, residents rural central‐western regions. Key included increased exercise, social activities, improved air quality. Conclusion positively impacts urban especially vulnerable groups, highlighting urgent need integrate considerations into planning providing valuable insights future policy development.

With the rapid development of China’s economy, resource consumption and environmental pollution have become challenges faced by China in its process. In order to effectively achieve a balance between economic ecological protection, Chinese government has successively introduced strategies for environment construction. However, how scientifically evaluate quality regional environments, analyze related impacts, promote national governance always been difficult reach consensus continues receive attention from academic community. This paper sorts through research recent years about assessments summarize current assessment methods dimensions China, as well impact terms evaluation methods, this analyzes applicability limitations mainstream methods. dimensions, summarizes results different dimensions. construction, elaborates on three aspects influencing factors, effects method analysis.
