ABSTRACT This study employs a quasi‐natural experiment using 7 years (2010–2016) of enterprise tax data from China, leveraging staggered highway openings at the county level to construct difference‐in‐differences (DID) model. The findings reveal that access significantly enhances profitability agricultural enterprises. Robustness tests confirm these results. Heterogeneity analysis reveals has greater impact on firms producing perishable products (e.g., vegetables, fruits, livestock, and aquaculture) those located farther major markets. Mechanism suggests by improving transportation efficiency, expanding market reach, lowering operational costs. Further positively influences firm productivity. These offer valuable insights for policymakers seeking enhance sustainable development globally.

Transregional energy transmission can help balance resource allocation and serve long-term regional interests. The West–East Gas Pipeline Project (WEGPP), which is the longest natural gas pipeline in China, aims to address serious imbalance between supply demand China's eastern western regions. Few studies have considered WEGPP's effect on carbon emissions terms of transmission. Using data for prefecture-level cities from 2000 2019, we consider WEGPP as a quasi-natural experiment adopt staggered difference-in-differences model investigate causal emissions. Green innovation serves as a driving force for enterprises to enhance their competitiveness and may offer an effective pathway reducing carbon emissions. This study, using data on green emissions from publicly listed companies between 2000 2022, examines the impact of enterprise its specific transmission channels.
