Haze pollution control is integral to green development, and fiscal taxation policies are fundamental mechanisms supporting this effort. This study leverages the implementation of China’s Environmental Protection Tax (EPT) Law as a quasi-natural experiment assess impact greening tax system on haze based panel data from 281 prefecture-level cities in China 2012 2021. The findings indicate that (1) EPT significantly reduces pollution, with results confirmed after series robustness tests; (2) controls through promoting cleaner industrial structure, fostering technological innovation, strengthening rigidity environmental law enforcement; (3) decentralization enhances inhibitory effect pollution; (4) haze-reduction especially notable non-old bases, areas less pressure officials’ promotions, higher public awareness. not only enriches research policy effects but also contributes sustainable development goal continuously fighting for blue skies.

Purpose This paper aims to examine whether chief executive officer’s (CEO) information technology (IT) background can affect enterprises’ continuous green innovation (CGI). Design/methodology/approach study uses the data of China’s listed enterprises from 2011 2019. Findings The statistical results reveal that when a company hires CEO with an IT background, its CGI be higher. Firm ownership, firm digitization and industry bias alter impact CEO’s on firms’ CGI. effect is most pronounced in non-state-owned (non-SOEs), high-digitalized skill-biased industries, while not SOEs, low-digitalized labor-biased industries. Practical implications has practical implications, as it measures enterprises. It also points necessity for enhance Social findings provide new strategies incentivizing sustainable development innovation. Originality/value To best authors’ knowledge, this first discuss association between conclusions enrich both upper echelons theory enterprise literature.

Climate change has a significant impact on human economic and social life, climate issues have rapidly emerged as global hot topic. Using data from prefecture-level cities in China 2005 to 2020 sample, this study explores the relationship between policy uncertainty (CPU) urban green total factor energy efficiency (GTFEE). The results show that, first, CPU can significantly improve GTFEE, are reconfirmed after various robustness tests. Second, promotes GTFEE by improving public environmental concerns optimizing consumption structure. Third, promotion role of is particularly resource-based economically developed cities. provide theoretical basis practical enlightenment for government formulate forward-looking policies promote transformation development

The transition to carbon neutrality in China’s heavy industries is essential for mitigating global climate change, given the sector’s significant contribution greenhouse gas emissions. This study systematically examines multifaceted barriers and opportunities influencing decarbonization efforts these industries. Employing expert-driven methodologies, including Delphi method best-worst (BWM), research identifies prioritizes critical challenges, such as high upfront costs renewable technologies, technological dependency on coal, fragmented regulatory frameworks. It highlights transformative opportunities, emphasizing advancements capture, utilization, storage (CCUS), energy integration, strengthened pricing mechanisms. findings reveal interaction between economic, technological, policy dimensions, underscoring need coordinated interventions overcome entrenched barriers. contributes theoretical by integrating expert insights with robust multi-criteria decision-making techniques offers actionable pathways policymakers industry stakeholders accelerate industrial decarbonization. These align international objectives, providing a scalable framework sustainable transitions energy-intensive sectors.

Purpose Green Public Procurement (GPP) is a crucial way to promote producing green products, but its relationship with corporate pollution emissions needs be verified. This study aims evaluate the environmental effects of policy by analyzing how GPP influences pollution. Design/methodology/approach based on extensive sample data Chinese industrial enterprises from 2001 2010, using China’s first list as an exogenous policy. The authors have established differential model explore impact and underlying mechanisms. Findings significantly reduces sulfur dioxide (SO2) enterprises. Verify robustness this conclusion replacing variables, excluding other interventions that reduce selfselection bias, conducting placebo testing. encourages regulated improve their production processes, drive clean technology innovation, optimize energy structure, efficiency emissions. cleaning effect more significant in eastern central China large medium-sized urban areas. has effectively reduced SO2 private capital-intensive heavily polluting Originality/value paper constructs difference-in-differences 2006. ABSTRACT This study uses the establishment of Pilot Free Trade Zones (PFTZ) as a quasi‐natural experiment, analyzing data from A‐share listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen 2009 to 2022. A staggered difference‐in‐differences (DID) model is applied examine impact PFTZ on firms' green governance performance (GGP). The results show that significantly enhance GGP, with robust findings after parallel trend tests, placebo addressing endogeneity. Mechanism analysis reveals improve GGP through two key mechanisms: “conceptual governance” “process governance.” conceptual mechanism strengthens firm's environmental social responsibility awareness, while process enhances management efficiency fosters innovation transformation, thereby improving quality. Heterogeneity indicates stronger effects high‐pollution industries, firms greater reputational capital, regions advanced finance infrastructure, eastern regions. Furthermore, regional regulatory intensity public awareness positively moderate this effect. also expands corporate access sustainable financing, supporting balanced economic outcomes. provides valuable insights for policymakers promote transformation within PFTZ.
