Abstract The transition to low‐carbon energy and independence of a country play an important role in the sustainable development its sector. Another issue is cost competitiveness generation process; with new renewable technologies, carbon‐neutral society possible. In this article, we present view transformation based on case study Malta. We have created simulation Maltese electricity system projected growth dominance photovoltaic market. results suggest that high penetration photovoltaics has significant advantage over conventional using fossil fuels. particular, simulated system, total annual was reduced threefold, CO 2 emissions were by 40%, Malta increased 60%. end, article gives recommendation for further research into system.
