District heating (DH) systems have been identified as an important component in efforts to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and achieve climate targets the near future. Software tools for analyzing these use different modeling approaches, making it challenging practitioners choose most suitable tool based on specific case requirements. This paper systematically reviews available DH network simulation tools, comparing their application scope, functional capabilities. An online survey was conducted among developers experts assess technical evaluation criteria tools. First, basic concepts principles of networks are discussed. Moreover, provides overview mathematical models, discusses various numerical methods used analysis, while highlighting potential areas further research development. The aim this is support academic industrial users selecting appropriate libraries.

District heating is one of the main strategies for providing heat supply buildings in cold climate countries. However, large parts current prefabricated pipes these networks are reaching end their technical service life. Replacing a time-consuming procedure and requires huge investments. Predictive Maintenance (PdM) promising strategy to deal with situations optimize prioritize maintenance activities. This paper surveys different PdM approaches considering difficulties implementing PdMs district (DHNs) compared other energy sectors. It demonstrates that methodology unique each DHN according distinctive characteristics, environmental factors, resource type, available data, equipment, factors. To best authors' knowledge, this presents first comprehensive review focused on various aspects developed DHNs, including data analytics, prediction models, integrated technologies facilitate implementation DHNs. A thorough discussion state-of-the-art real-world challenges presented, potential research avenues provided.

This study analyzes the potential for energy saving through integration of a photovoltaic and thermal system with heat pump in community setup small-scale network. An empirical was conducted consisting office buildings residential houses to analyze compare performance network hub storage that utilizes surplus produced by photovoltaic-thermal installed house from other conventional electric hot water boiler. The energy-saving proposed compared existing boiler analyzed, it found electricity consumption could be reduced more than 70% per day system. One can also annual DHW load coverage PVT 50.4%. results this suggest systems combined networks pumps effective reducing consumption, not only individual but as way increase efficiency within communities.

There is an increasingly rich literature on the decarbonisation of heat and evolution networks. This paper investigates whether a novel fifth Generation District Heating Cooling Network (5GDHC) could be retrofitted to existing National Health Service (NHS) hospital campus for purpose heating cooling. The building load was simulated input into custom-written script carry out series parametric studies optimise design options. model calibrated against site data available from facilities management. research found that it feasible use 5GDHC consisting large single mass water utilise inter-seasonal thermal storage. A natural resource such as aquifer not required. tested sizing options larger storage, pumps chillers reduce operating costs improve flexibility. closes with discussion practical factors in retrofitting networks densely occupied highly constrained environment. findings are further describing circumstances which suitable.
