Evaluating the mechanical behavior of hydrate-bearing sediment is a prerequisite and guarantee for achieving safe exploitation utilization hydrates, it also important stability assessment suction piles, anchor cable laying during process. In this study, focusing on strain-rate dependence properties methane clayey-silty sediments, 15 sets drained triaxial shear tests with different strain rates hydrate saturations were carried out, X-ray computed tomography (CT) scans performed specimens after deformation dissociation. The results show that (1) all exhibit characteristics hardening volumetric compression. With saturation increasing, phenomenon changes insignificantly, sensitivity to rate increases due strong dependency itself. increased prevents small particles from adequately filling pores, resulting in smaller compression; (2) as increases, coupled effect cementation strengthening mechanism decrease local effective confining pressure, strength decreases hydrate-free sediments sediments; (3) when failure linearly, Secant Young's modulus E50 nonlinearly. A nonlinear relationship formula between given; (4) similar previous studies clay mechanics, tends or disappear at lower rates; (5) converted tests, loading method low high progressively can make interlocking more sufficient, greater sediment.
