This study evaluates the energy consumption and embodied carbon emissions of various heat pump systems for an office building in Chicago, IL, U.S., over a 50-year lifespan, including operation, manufacturing, construction phases. The analyzed include air source pumps (ASHP) Air to Water configurations, ground (GSHP) Soil configurations. A traditional HVAC system serves as baseline comparison. Advanced simulation tools, Rhino, Grasshopper, TRACE 700, One Click LCA, were used identify optimal sustainable operations. Unlike prior studies focusing on GSHP versus systems, this research directly compares ASHP addressing significant gap design literature. (Soil Water) demonstrated lowest intensity at 100.8 kWh/m2·yr, 41.8% improvement baseline, total 3,882,164 kg CO2e. In contrast, (Air Air) system, while reducing relative exhibited highest among configurations due its higher operational demands. highlights significance operating phase contributions. These findings emphasize importance holistic approach that considers both impacts achieve designs.

The electrification of energy systems is essential for carbon reduction and sustainable goals. However, current network asset ratings the poor thermal efficiency older buildings pose significant challenges. This study evaluates impact heat pump electric vehicle (EV) penetration on a UK residential distribution network, considering highest coincident electricity demand worst weather conditions recorded over past decade. power flow calculation, based Python, performed using pandapower library, leveraging actual structure Hillingdon area by incorporating recent smart meter data from system operator alongside historical Based outcome transformer loadings voltage levels were assessed existing projected EV adoption rates, in line with national policy targets. Findings highlight that varied consumer density diverse usage patterns significantly influence upgrade requirements.
