In 2015, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) replaced Millennium (MDG), providing guidance and direction for future development of countries around world. Both MDG SDG have established multiple indicators to achieve environmental sustainability. However, few studies compared changes in ecological environment during two periods. Therefore, this study selected seven major river basins China as area comprehensively assessed ecosystem service importance (ESI) within different periods based on six services, including habitat quality, soil conservation, water yield, carbon storage, grain production, aesthetic landscape. Specifically, from 2000 2015 2020 were used represent periods, respectively. The results showed that overall ESI an increasing trend both proportion extremely important reached 20.39% 2020, mostly distributed Yangtze River basin Pearl basin. Except other services restored period. COVID-19 a series sudden disasters greatly affected production fluctuation quality also indicated although has recovery, there was still some degradation 20 years ago. National protection policies restoration projects gradually improved are striving reach standards step by step. many problems need be solved urgently, such reduction land, increase emissions, weak resilience disasters. made significant positive progress MDG, more efforts needed goals future.

ABSTRACT Building large water diversion projects to form a grand national or regional network is an important option address the crisis. It necessary explore systems for managing projects. This paper studied management based on institutional change theory. put forward set of innovative options South-to-North Water Diversion (SNWD) project, Three Gorges project and other similar in China. A comparative these options, both qualitative quantitative terms, was conducted SWOT analysis comprehensive expert evaluation. finally proposed recommended option, which requires SNWD Danjiangkou reservoir be managed together, reservoirs along three by local authorities.

Large-scale water diversion projects are essential for meeting the needs of water-stressed regions, necessitating an evaluation their impact on quality and aquatic ecosystems. This study provides first snapshots organic micropollutants (OMPs) along 1466 km Eastern Route China's South-to-North Water Diversion Project. Using nontarget analysis with ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography high-resolution mass spectrometry, we identified quantified 357 OMPs from samples collected during period (WDP) nonwater (NWDP). The included 136 household compounds, 112 agricultural 102 industrial 7 traffic markers. Significant regional variations in OMP concentrations compositions were observed NWDP due to diverse local pollution sources route. However, such differences reduced WDP, likely transfer. diversity varied substantially but was more stable less distance decay WDP. Network indicated closer relationships between suggesting a consistent spatial distribution. source overwhelmingly influenced These findings underscore need ongoing assessments

Abstract Global biodiversity is largely dependent on aquatic habitats. The state of fish habitats and the health ecosystem as a whole are important indicators environmental quality. In recent years, implications human interference climate change environments have gained significant attention. Hydrological modifications driven by anthropogenic activities steadily degrading flow conditions threatening abundance in geographic region, while simultaneously having an impact watershed. Therefore, integrated hydrological-hydrodynamic-habitat modelling under diverse regimes can be used to assess eco-sustainability habitat suitability species. This article categorizes variables into three groups: eco-hydrological, hydrodynamic-water quality, eco-biological. categorization facilitates understanding mechanisms which each factor affects their study, first its kind, provides extensive review eco-hydrological models, quality along with relevant influencing components. It proposes scientific framework for evaluating potential hazards degradation, emphasis data-scarce regions. strategy could potentially establish basis preservation restoration ecosystems.

As one of the most dynamic natural elements, water resources play a vital role in both ecological and economic activities. The rational allocation is essential for sustainable development human society. Using data from prefecture-level cities Yangtze River Economic Belt 2013 to 2022, this study employs Cobb–Douglas (C-D) production function measure degree resource distortion across provinces cities. Additionally, panel model applied analyze influencing factors. key findings are as follows: issue excessive widespread Belt, with highest observed middle reaches, where average index reaches 1.43—significantly higher than that upstream (1.15) downstream (1.20) regions. Water endowment, South-to-North Diversion Project, rising prices contribute significantly improving allocation, whereas increased industrial use efficiency government intervention exacerbate distortions. Regionally, factors exhibit broadly similar effects provinces. In sectoral analysis, only estimated coefficients policies show directional differences, other have no significant impact on distortion. By identifying extent causes misallocation, provides empirical evidence support region-specific management strategies, aiming enhance promote development.

The riverine fish species are highly vulnerable and responsive to large-scale water diversion projects. These adverse impacts more pronounced in the plateau river ecosystems, which may change environmental conditions of habitats community structure. We investigated effects various factors on diversity seven rivers Western Sichuan Plateau, is planned area China's South-to-North Water Diversion Project. Twenty-two species, including eight exotic were collected during September 2023 (Autumn) May 2024 (Spring). communities exhibited no significant difference between seasons but had prominent variations among different rivers. heterogeneity was significantly positively correlated with geographical distance sampling sites (based a projected coordinate system). Furthermore, canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) illustrated that altitude contributed distribution than other physicochemical factors, such as channel width, conductivity, temperature. Rivers at low altitudes likely be invasion fish. Our results demonstrated dispersal limitation by altitudinal gradient primary regulatory spatial differentiation study area, reflected high dependence local habitats. As project implemented, attention expected paid protecting regime shifts communities. Additionally, risk assessment biological under inter-basin transfers human activities should carried out soon possible.
