In recent years, heavy rainfall disasters have caused frequent damage to bridge piers due scouring and resulted in the fall of bridges many areas Japan. The objective this study was investigate effect local around downstream on center river flowing at an angle piers. It found that when flows piers, area becomes wider from upstream because longer inhibition width positioned perpendicular water flow. depth tends be smaller than depth. addition, time onset tilting deformation increases with water.

Globally, most bridges fail due to hydrological causes such as scouring or flooding. Therefore, using a approach, this study proposes methodology that contributes prioritizing the intervention of prevent their collapse. Through an exhaustive literature review, evaluation matrix subdivided into four dimensions was developed and total 18 parameters were considered, distributed follows: environmental, six technical, social, economic. This applied eight with history problems in same river validated through semi-structured interviews specialists. Data collected field visits, journalistic information, review gauged basin’s historical flow rates, consultations population. Modeling then conducted, which considered influence gullies discharge additional HEC-HMS HEC-RAS, before being calibrated. The application matrix, is optimal tool for bridge interventions, revealed five have high vulnerability scores between 3 3.56, three medium 2.75 2.94. multidimensional can be adapted similar studies, better decision-making process important infrastructure interventions riverine bridges.

Purpose This study aims to provide a review for scour in complex rivers and streams with coarser bed material, steep longitudinal slopes dynamic environments, the interest of safety economy hydraulic structures. The knowledge such geographical complexities is very crucial comprehensive understanding failures establishing definitive criteria bridge this major research gap. Design/methodology/approach existing available literature shows significant work done case silt, sand small sized material but any substantial gravel size or above lacking, resulting wide Though some researchers have attempted explore possibilities refining models by adding pier size, shape, sediment non-uniformity armouring effects, which otherwise been given miss various researchers, including pioneer field Lacey–Inglis (1930). Scour is one of the major causes for bridge failures. This study established a machine learning based predictive maintenance policy scour risk mitigation. Data used in this was provided French National Railway Company (SNCF). After comparing three commonly ML algorithms, it found that extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) algorithm outperforms others and achieves very encouraging results. Moreover, trained classifier then tested another 40 piers results were compared with junior engineer's evaluation. Results show XGBoost had slightly better performance terms accuracy precision. The proposed methodology paper allows engineers to determine an accurate yet rapid way.
