Cadmium (Cd) contamination in soils is a pressing environmental issue due to its toxicity and persistence. Given the diverse geological formations intensive agricultural activities Ireland, understanding distribution sources of soil Cd particularly important. This study used multiple GIS-based spatial machine learning (SML) techniques investigate controlling factors 16,783 topsoil samples across island Ireland. Three analytical methods were applied: hot spot analysis detect clusters high low concentrations, Geographically Weighted Pearson Correlation Coefficients (GWPCC) explore how relationships with other properties vary space, Random Forest (RF) rank contributing accumulation. Hot revealed strong overlap between concentrations key geochemical variables including CIA, Fe, P, pH, SOC, Zn. GWPCC further highlighted their spatially varying relationships, significantly positive correlations Zn, P central midlands. The local correlation coefficients obtained from ranged negative highest values 0.80, 0.92 0.86, respectively, which higher than results traditional coefficients. These patterns associated impure limestones, Zn mineralization, phosphate fertilizer inputs. Furthermore, RF model ranked (39.4%) (17.6%) as most influential factors, importance increasing limestone-dominated areas (50.9% 27.4%), emphasized external contributions mineralization fertilizers addition natural demonstrated effectiveness integrating SML for identifying highlighting roles lithology provided valuable insights management policy development Ireland elsewhere.
