Flame retardants are commonly used to reduce fire risk in various products and environments, including textiles. While many of these additives contain harmful substances, efforts underway their usage. Current research aims minimize flame-retardant quantities enhance durability against external factors. This involves utilizing anchor peptides or material-binding (MBPs), which versatile molecules that bind strongly surfaces like MBPs can be equipped with functional molecules, e.g., additives, by chemical enzymatic bioconjugation. In this research, biohybrid flame an adapted finishing process developed. Specifically, biobased adhesion promoters, the so-called MBPs, finish textiles additives. Abstract Legacy brominated flame retardants, including polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), have been classified as persistent organic pollutants and replaced with novel retardants (NBFRs). The octanol–water partition coefficients (log K OW ) of NBFRs computationally estimated, but the log values provided by these methods can differ 1 to 3 orders magnitude. Given importance this parameter in fate toxicity models, we indirectly measured eight their capacity factor ( k ′) on a reversed‐phase high‐performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) C18 column isocratic elution compared those estimated nine computational models. Novel halogenated flame retardants (NHFRs) have been developed to replace those brominated that restricted due their persistent, bioaccumulation potential and toxicity and, therefore, it is important determine whether these replacement products are present at detectable concentrations in Canadians. NHFRs were measured human milk samples (n = 541) collected from across Canada between 2008 2011, which the first pan-Canadian dataset for chemicals milk. Among 15 eight methoxy-polybrominated diphenyl ethers (MeO-PBDEs), nine two MeO-PBDEs (6-MeO-PBDE 47 2-MeO-PBDE 68) detected a frequency of more than 9%. Despite benzene, 1,1′-(1,2-ethanediyl)bis [2,3,4,5,6-pentabromo-]/decabromodiphenylethane [DBDPE] being less frequently other observed NHFRs, its relative contribution sum was when present. Poly-halogenated phenols generated from a range of industrial processes can find their way into rivers and ground water. Here we report on potential treatment for reducing the toxicity these aqueous pollutants using two highly toxic penta-halogenated (pentachlorophenol (PCP) pentabromophenol (PBP)) as surrogates. Solutions were passed through glass column packed with silica support fused titanium dioxide (TiO2) horseradish peroxidase (HRP) immobilized its TiO2/glass surface (HRP-Tglass). TiO2 photocatalysis was activated irradiation UVB (320 nm) which in turn HRP. Two operational flow rates (0.5 1.25 mL min-1; hydraulic retention times (HRTs) 20 8 min, respectively), tested effect time extent degradation reduction treated effluent. Microtox® used to measure substrate by-products at both rates. At highest rate, dehalogenation limited (removal 37 % chlorine 22 bromine) reaction products increased. lowest longer exposure resulted approximately 97 96 transformation PCP PBP, respectively, greater degree 65 70 substantial decrease solutions. The higher effluent rate attributed initial being more than substrates. With HRT, then further broken down less products.
