Microplastics (MPs) are colonized by biofilm-forming microbes. Biodegradable plastics, popular replacements for traditional still have unknown biofilm formation characteristics. We conducted a 60-day indoor experiment, where sediment was exposed to MPs (polypropylene, PP), biodegradable (polylactic acid, PLA), and glass beads (GLASS). The microbial communities in the MPs-biofilm were analyzed using high-throughput sequencing. Results indicated that Proteobacteria dominant phylum on all substrates, followed Actinobacteria, Firmicutes. At genus level, majority of microorganisms colonizing PP possessed nitrification denitrification capabilities, while bacteria PLA capable degrading lignin, cellulose carbon metabolism. Sphingomonas , promising microplastics, particularly discovered biofilm, meanwhile, bacterial colonization indirectly increased potential human transmission pathogens. Redundancy analysis revealed pH moisture significantly affected communities. Pearson correlation heatmap abundance genera two biofilms is negatively correlated with physicochemical parameters (pH, moisture, TN, TP), except salinity. associated exhibited distinct differences caused combined effects changes properties different material substrates. This study provides further evidence significant selective features these when same source community, offering insights into exploration degradation.

A radical transformation is occurring in the global energy system, with solar PV and wind contributing to three-quarters of new electricity generation capacity due their affordability. This shift towards renewable electrification services, such as transportation, heating, industry, will gradually replace fossil fuels coming decades. paper highlights Libya's potential achieve self-sufficiency twenty-first century. In addition its resources, Libya possesses favourable conditions for solar, wind, moderate hydroelectric energy. The alone approximately 100 times greater than what needed support a fully solar-powered system that provides consumption similar developed countries all Libyan citizens, without relying on fuels. Moreover, Green Mountain range offers substantial opportunities low-cost pumped off-river hydropower storage. Therefore, integration energy, complemented by battery storage, likely be primary pathway rapid growth sector.

This review addresses the issue of replacing manufactured microplastics in seed coatings used agriculture. Firstly, it focuses on policy and regulatory actions taken at a global level. There is no consensus within scientific community definition microplastic and, more generally, classification plastic debris. Nevertheless, several decision schemes have been proposed an attempt to define notion microplastics. The different criteria relevant this definition, such as size, physical state, chemical structure, origin, persistence microplastics, are discussed, with comparison being made between REACH regulation literature. Seed production processing also functions explained order gain better understanding properties be considered substitution strategy for currently main challenges multiple; substitutes must provide same performance microplastics: (i) improving adherence treatment seed, (ii) distributing evenly over (iii) reducing amount dust-off when handling treated (iv) flowability, which particularly important during sowing stage, all while preserving physiological seed. Substitute polymers according desired functional properties: two families biopolymers were identified literature: polysaccharides proteins. Among them, 13 6 polymers, respectively, complied regulation, demonstrating adhesion, dust reduction performances, preservation quality particular. work aims guide future studies coatings, highlight research needs area. It based analysis discussion literature, identifying listing potential substitutes.

Microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs) have emerged as significant environmental pollutants with potential detrimental effects on ecosystems human health. Several studies indicate their interaction enzymes; this topic represents a multifaceted research field encompassing several areas of interest from the toxicological ecotoxicological impact MPs NPs humans wildlife to biodegradation plastics by microbial enzymes. This review aims provide critical analysis state-of-the-art knowledge enzyme carbonic anhydrase (CA), providing recent insights, analyzing gaps in field, drawing future perspectives its application. CA is widespread crucial various organisms; it for physiological processes animals, plants, bacteria. It catalyzes reversible hydration CO2, which essential respiration, acid–base balance, pH homeostasis, ion transport, calcification, photosynthesis. Studies demonstrate that can inhibit activity mechanisms including adsorption surface subsequent conformational changes. Microplastics (MPs) are novel pollutants that can adsorb heavy metals in water environments and migrate together as carriers prone to aging due the light water. However, few reports have been published on synergistic behavior effects of these different types aged MPs adsorption desorption Cr(VI). Here, two MP types─polyamide (PA) polylactic acid (PLA)─were by UV irradiation, behaviors Cr(VI) were studied. The results indicated rapidly age MPs. After exposed light, their specific surface area, negative charge, oxygenic groups increased, resulting enhanced hydrophilicity. depicted a markedly capacity for compared with aged-PA > pristine-PA aged-PLA pristine-PLA. process followed Langmuir pseudo-second-order models, confirming chemical monolayer primary processes involved was more easily desorbed simulated gastric fluid environment. rate lower than pristine because stronger binding forces mainly depends mechanisms such electrostatic attraction, reduction reactions, chelation groups.
