Soil ecosystems are under serious threat from microplastics (MPs), and this is causing worldwide concern. The relationship between soil MPs has become a popular research topic, the vertical migration of increasing interest. This Review summarizes current status into factors affecting MPs. Published shows that characteristics physicochemical properties affect infiltration process. organisms play key role in by acting as vectors or result adsorption. Dissolved organic matter metal oxides transfer adsorption-desorption. In addition, rainfall dry-wet cycles alter mobility MPs, leading to changes processes. Agricultural activities such tillage irrigation may distribute throughout topsoil. Vertical process influenced combination factors, these MP deposition needs be explored further.

Microplastic pollution in soils and surface waters is a growing environmental concern, yet the mechanisms governing transport by overland flow remain unclear. This study investigated influence of soil texture slope gradient on movement microplastics with different shapes polymer compositions under simulated rainfall typical agricultural conditions semi-arid climate. Small flumes were subjected to controlled simulations replicating rain patterns, microplastic was quantified using collection flasks. The results indicated that neither nor significantly affected total transport. However, fibres exhibited greater retention compared other shapes. Polymer composition did not play major role mobility, except for polystyrene pellets, which transported more readily than polyethylene pellets. Field observations history sludge application confirmed predominance topsoil, reinforcing tendency this shape resist mobilisation. These findings suggest runoff primarily governed particle buoyancy rather properties or inclination. Future research should explore roles size, intensity, organic matter content mobility natural field conditions.
