Human activities such as agriculture and urban development are linked to water quality degradation. Canada represents a large heterogeneous landscape of freshwater lakes, where variations in climate, geography geology interact with land cover alteration influence differently across regions. In this study, we investigated the use on bacterial communities 12 ecozones. At pan-Canadian scale, total phosphorus (TP) was most significant variable influencing community structure, pronounced shift observed at 110 μg/L TP, corresponding transition from eutrophic hypereutrophic conditions. regional significantly explained structure all terms effect, and, lesser extent, urbanisation were variables structure. Regionally, ecozones characterised by extensive agriculture, consistently explaining Likewise, extensively urbanised ecozones, Overall, these results demonstrate that richness influenced shaped different ways.

Abstract The approach of combining cost‐effective nanopore sequencing and emerging environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding could prove to be a promising tool for biodiversity documentation, especially in Malaysia. Given the substantial funding constraints recent years, relation country's biodiversity, many researchers have been limited conduct restricted research without extended monitoring periods, potentially hindering comprehensive surveys compromise conservation efforts. Therefore, present study aimed evaluate application eDNA on freshwater fish using short reads generated through sequencing. This assessment focused species detection three selected rivers within Endau Rompin Landscape Additionally, compared levels between conventional sampling methods, examined effectiveness primer choice, applied both shotgun approach. We successfully identified total 22 71 with an identification threshold >97% >90%, respectively, MinION platform. detected over 13% more than when method was used. Notably, distinction primers 12S rRNA cytochrome oxidase I insignificant. cost proved effective reduction at 33.4%. With favourable cost‐effectiveness increased detection, complement existing enhance holistic diversity documentation targeted habitats facilitate planning.

Population growth, urbanization, and the effects of climate change all exacerbate problem global water scarcity, which poses a serious obstacle to sustainable development. Solar distillation emerges as critical solution, converting brackish or saline into potable using alternative energy. Despite wealth information on solar still adaptations, identifying most efficient design for residential industrial settings remains challenging. Hence, comparative analysis various designs is essential, considering practical financial aspects. This study aims showcase work researchers who are trying make systems more productive by looking at new techniques used in spherical pyramidal stills. The goal this research identify variables that influence efficiency, enabling achievement desired results with ease. Researchers have investigated interventions, such integrating moving parts other components, modifying basin's shape size, incorporating filaments wick, reducing surface tension through use floats balls, magnetic fields, improving electric field. According research, field (220 mT) above below basin increases molecular motion evaporation, resulting 41 % efficiency gain. Spherical stills don't require tracking because their uniform exposure radiation makes them than pyramid Reviews find adding rotating ball phase-changing materials significantly enhances stills, making best design. Mirrors reflect sunlight; an overview related literature shows it leads additional production. Future will focus comprehending annual production rates associated costs, aiming enhance our application strategies technology.

Abstract The integration of palaeolimnology into conservation practice is crucial for effective ecosystem management and restoration. Palaeoecological data provide a unique long-term perspective on key ecological challenges enable decision makers to better understand pre-disturbance conditions, natural system dynamism responses change. Despite this there exist well-recognised accessibility issues clear research-implementation gap, in particular, poor communication lack understanding practitioners’ constraints. This study evaluates the value palaeolimnological research by interrogating 60 applied papers identified via rigorous pre-screening process ensure relevance. were assessed use best criteria, from knowledge-exchange literature, conservation-practitioner feedback was gathered recommendations made within papers. widespread recognition importance accessible research, our review reveals that essential criteria are inconsistently applied. Although has been an increase practices over time, co-production (including co-authorship, co-design linkage relevant environmental legislation), showed no significant increase, despite being advocated community. Practitioner highlighted need clear, actionable recommendations, detailed specific or restoration guidance particularly well-received, as those considered financial implications summarised their findings more clearly. Equally, many criticised overly technical language expression, generic suggestions, practical consideration recommendations. highlights improving knowledge outputs accessible, relevant, feasible guide efforts. To enhance relevance impact palaeolimnology, we propose five recommendations: (1) situate existing knowledge; (2) consider practicalities practitioners, including material socio-economic aspects; (3) simple language; (4) employ easy-to-interpret diagrams bullet points recommendations; (5) improve older work. These helping progress towards ‘gold standard’ where it can be employed greater effect support practice.

The evaluation of soil particle composition and salt dynamics is essential for promoting the sustainable development oasis agriculture in arid regions under long-term mulched drip irrigation (MDI). In this study, we employed space-for-time substitution method to investigate effects MDI on salinity. Additionally, seven fields, with durations ranging from 0 16 years, were selected represent primary successional sequence though time Northwest China. Soil samples collected three depths (0–30 cm, 30–60 60–100 cm) then analyzed laboratory content. Our findings demonstrated that influenced by depth mechanical cultivation maximum wetting front depth, application significantly altered both structure layers particles after 8 years. sand content salinity gradually decreased, whereas silt clay increased increasing duration throughout 0–100 cm depth. Furthermore, rates desalination stabilized 10 years application, levels exceeding 90% layer. mass fractal dimension (Dm) exhibited an upward trend across changes indirectly variations Dm study effectively mitigated salinity, changed structure, ultimately enhanced quality cotton yield.
