There is a need to define mine tailings in clear, precise, multidisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and holistic manner, considering not only geotechnical hydraulic concepts but also integrating environmental geochemical aspects with implications for the sustainability of mining. This article corresponds an independent study that answers questions concerning definition socio-environmental risks linked chemical composition by examining practical experience industrial-scale copper gold mining projects Chile Peru. Definitions analysis key responsible management tailings, such as characterization metallic–metalloid components, non-metallic metallurgical reagents, risk identification, among others, are presented. Implications potential impacts from generation acid rock drainage (ARD) discussed. Finally, concludes potentially toxic both communities environment, cannot be considered inert innocuous materials; thus, require safe, controlled, application most high standards, use best available technologies (BATs), applicable practices (BAPs), implementation (BEPs) avoid impact due accidents or failure storage facilities (TSFs).

Seed germination is critical for crop production and sensitive to abiotic stresses. Considering that nitric oxide (NO) has been shown ameliorate the negative effects of stress in several plants, we investigated effect mechanisms exogenous NO wheat seed under Fe stress, focusing on oxidative stress. Specifically, seeds cultivar 'Ningchun 4' were treated with 1 mM FeCl3 (Fe) or donor sodium nitroprusside (SNP) and/or specific scavenger 2-phenyl-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide (PTIO). Changes endogenous production, content, starch mobilisation, antioxidant enzyme activity examined at early (24 h) late (72 stages. Notably, PTIO treatments reduced potential, rate, index, vitality index during Additionally, levels, increased starch, sucrose, soluble sugar contents, induced suppressed enzymes, downregulated nitrate reductase, synthase, amylase activities. However, SNP treatment ameliorated stress-induced inhibition germination, upregulated degradation, improved system reactive oxygen species scavenging. Conclusively, alleviates inhibitory by enhancing synthesis, promoting decomposition, alleviating damage.

ABSTRACT Areas impacted by the deposition of iron mining tailings present physical and chemical characteristics that can hinder root growth, applying soil conditioners help alleviate these limitations. The objective was to evaluate effect in improving environment for growth grass affected tailing. Four different experiments were conducted testing conditioner proportions (0, 5, 10, 25, 50% v/v), a completely randomized design with four replications, using Cynodon spp. sand, vermiculite, sawdust, organic compost. Bulk density, macro- microporosity, total pore volume (VTP), pH, matter content (OM), cation exchange capacity (CEC), dry mass aboveground, root, plant evaluated. There improvements porosity reduction density application compost; however, sand decreased VTP. pH reduced sawdust increased Sawdust compost OM. CEC vermiculite promoted greatest spp., emphasis on which provided increases biomass production. conditioners, overall, proved effective conditions, reducing increasing OM, promoting this makes technology efficient tailings. Due its notable be recommended rehabilitation environments or post-mining revegetation.

Abstract The synergistic utilization of mining and industrial wastes in the construction industry represents a major step forward environmental sustainable constructions. This research has presented an exploration feasibility combined use iron ore tailings (IOT) red mud (RM) brick manufacture. IOT RM have been blended with ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) lime solution for production bricks without high-temperature kiln-firing. Eight different combinations (IOT + GGBS) (RM varying ratios principal components used bricks. Multiple regression analysis employed to estimate strength compositions 70% 30% GGBS attained highest 9.68 MPa 6.25 among various combinations. water absorption results 18.7% 19.02% fulfilled IS standards too. revealed that bonding between mortar influenced by Si-Al matrix at low calcium content. Additionally, formation delicate Ca-Al-Si phase capable permeating brick, contributed constructive structure. study also reinforced view waste environmentally friendly is viable.
