Abstract The diversity of functional traits macroinvertebrates in freshwater ecosystems is one the current research hotspots field biodiversity. Understanding trait composition and their factors can make study watershed beta river ecological security patterns more effective. Based on two surveys conducted September 2020 July 2021 Qingyijiang (QYJ) River, longest tributary south bank lower Yangtze River China, we explored compositions relationships between water environment using indices, decomposition, R‐mode linked to Q‐mode, fourth‐corner analysis methods. Our results showed that environmental affected distribution traits, degree effect was reflected by correlation abundance species traits. Physical like flow velocity depth were significantly correlated with biological such as body size swimming ability. In counterparts, some nutrient indicators total phosphorus, ammonia nitrogen, chemical oxygen demand, which habits feeding group At same time, also found a high turnover rate communities river, reflecting strong dispersal ability species. This will be an important guide for conservation river. Local governments take measures conducting quarterly monitoring species; restoring riparian vegetation; limiting hardening riverbanks dredging rivers; controlling wastewater discharges from residential areas both sides river; use pesticides agricultural lands, so on. These become key directions diversity.

ABSTRACT Artificial reefs enhance marine biodiversity by increasing habitat complexity and heterogeneity, which in turn provide living space for various species. Macrobenthos, an important component of aquatic ecosystems, with limited mobility sensitivity to environmental changes, commonly serve as indicators ecosystem health. This study, conducted the summer autumn 2022 Sishili Bay (SB) Changdao Archipelago (CA), Yantai, China, aimed evaluate effects artificial on macrobenthic community structure using functional trait analysis. The nonmetric multidimensional scaling (nMDS) analysis based species abundance occurrence frequency did not reveal any clear separation between areas inside outside reefs. However, construction increased number macrobenthos, especially Mollusca Feeding type, a key trait, distinguished reefs, significant spatial temporal variations. driving differences reef nonreef include carnivorous Lumbrineris longifolia Glycinde bonhourei omnivorous Eriopisella sechellensis Sigambra bassi , were pivotal observed variations relative abundance. Functional richness (FRic) ( S ) showed consistent patterns variation, both contributing improving stability summer. autumn, was reduced extraordinary dominance single Multiple factors rather than one significantly influenced distribution diversity, reflecting complex interplay seasonal dynamics. study used assess impact structure, offering more effective measure species‐level assessments.

;Free flowing tributaries are important for maintaining of the aquatic biodiversity in dammed systems. Abstract Run‐of‐river (R‐O‐R) hydropower dams introduce two discontinuities in the river: dam and tailrace. Discontinuities can lead to changes water quality that may affect survival of aquatic macroinvertebrates, depending on their traits. We investigated invertebrate assemblage community‐level traits an urban river influenced by a small tailrace Hokkaido, Japan. As result inflow main channel, bypassed reach was warmer, areas below confluence were colder. Temperature consistent factor affecting distribution indicator taxa five major contributed most dissimilarity, but other environmental factors also showed significant effects. At community level, weighted mean with warm preference positive relationship temperature, cold did not appear be filtered delivered However, sensitive such as Ephemerella have already started showing negative responses temperature. The observed cold‐preferring scrapers could negatively energy transfer from primary producers higher consumers reach. Appropriate mitigation climate change effects systems achieved increasing flow reach, especially during summer months, maintain temperature regime is adequate for macroinvertebrate populations maintenance ecosystem functions.

Abstract The impact of two high‐head dams on macroinvertebrate communities within the regulated reaches Wujiang River in China was explored, using longitudinal monitoring data spanning from 2006 to 2016. In this study, we set up 10 sampling sites categorized into four areas based different stressors and defined three stages timeline dam construction. Our findings revealed significant changes community composition before after impoundment. While certain original dominant taxa, such as Rivularia globosa Lithoglyphopsis ovatus , remained throughout stages, mayflies caddisflies nearly vanished downstream dams. This trend accompanied by disappearance taxa with low adaptability emergence tolerant Additionally, typical limnological colonized inundated reaches. Dam impoundment affected not only but also diversity. recovery effect observed due limited distance, presence Wujiangdu upstream for over 20 years makes us believe that a large river system, may fully recover if distance is long enough. vulnerable species R. which demonstrated remarkable thrived dams, should be further studied future.
