Abstract The ubiquitous existence of microplastics and nanoplastics raises concerns about their potential impact on the human reproductive system. Limited data exists within system consequences sperm quality. Our objectives were to quantify characterize prevalence composition both canine testes investigate associations with count, weights testis epididymis. Using advanced sensitive pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, we quantified 12 types 47 23 testes. Data organ weights, count in dogs collected. Statistical analyses, including descriptive analysis, correlational multivariate linear regression analyses applied association functions. study revealed presence all testes, significant inter-individual variability. Mean total microplastic levels 122.63 µg/g 328.44 humans. Both humans canines exhibit relatively similar proportions major polymer types, PE being dominant. Furthermore, a negative correlation between specific polymers such as PVC PET normalized weight was observed. These findings highlight pervasive male fertility.

The pollution of microplastics (MPs) has received widespread attention with the increasing usage plastics in recent years. MPs could enter human body and exist circulatory system. Endometrium, rich blood vessels, acts as an essential role health female fertility. However, there is no study reporting exposure endometrium. We collected endometrium samples to detect presence qualitatively quantitatively via laser direct infrared. found that was a total 13 types existing samples, among which 6 special were both high abundance detection rate. these ranged from 0 117 particles/100 mg, median 21 mg. Most detected MPs, accounting for 88.35 %, small size (20-100 μm). Among small-size ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer ranked first while polyethylene accounted largest proportion large-size (100-500 Correlation analysis indicated significant relationship between age MP or BMI abundance. also designed questionnaire investigate lifestyle daily habits, aiming at revealing potential living habits. discovered some drinking habits chewing gum significantly correlated higher level exposure. For time, we identified clarified connections lifestyle. Further studies are still necessary explore more underlying information.

We conducted a nationally-representative survey of United States (U.S.) adults (n=1,960) in 2021 to gather insights on the knowledge, perceptions, and concerns about threats ocean, with specific focus plastics microplastic pollution. Responses from U.S. adult group were compared highly-engaged, Ocean Conservancy members who are very attuned ocean issues (n=882). is U.S.-based nonprofit environmental advocacy working protect today’s greatest challenges. Plastic pollution was primary concern identified by both members, surpassing eight other threat categories including oil spills, chemical nutrient pollution, climate change. Broad reported for study groups impacts marine wildlife, human health coastal community impact being less prominent. About half 90% had heard microplastics. Both indicated widespread support prevention measures believed industry be most responsible taking action address it. generally better informed more concerned plastic microplastics than significantly greater levels personal reduce their footprint when adults. In general, willingness refuse single-use plastics, but frequently brought food containers restaurants takeout, or contacted local representatives businesses reducing waste Overall, our results provide new public understanding participate individual plastic-reduction actions, needed solutions.
