Abstract The construction and operation of a small-scale hybrid constructed wetland (HCW) system for tertiary wastewater treatment was presented. HCW includes vertical sub-surface flow CW (VFCW), horizontal (HFCW) free water surface (FWSCW) operated in series had total area 150 m2. It received 7.5 m3/day secondary effluent from the existing poultry slaughter enterprise at production capacity 500 ducks per day an on-site experiment 12 months. results showed that removal efficiencies biological oxygen demand (BOD5), chemical (COD), suspended solids (TSS), ammonia nitrogen (NH4+-N), nitrate (NO3--N), (TN), orthophosphate (PO43--P), phosphorus (TP), Escherichia coli (E. coli) coliforms (T. reached average values 76.2, 78.7, 77.1, 83.9, 86.3, 84.9, 72.3, 73.9, 98.9 96.4%, respectively, while concentrations study complied with most difficult limits not only discharge into receiving source but also reusing to plants. function made by various configurations such as VFCW, HFCW FWSCW placed sequentially proved crucial treat make it reusable.

Landfill leachate contains various organic and inorganic substances resulting from the decomposition of solid waste. The treatment this complex mixture is an imperative need for environmental protection. This study used five pilot-scale horizontal subsurface flow (HSF) constructed wetland (CW) units to treat landfill leachate. main objective was evaluation performance CW in removal pollutants. effect porous media (gravel zeolite), plants (common reed cattail), hydraulic residence time (HRT, 8 10 days) were investigated. Two differed HRT, two media, three planting. results showed that planted had higher matter (OM) nitrogen (TKN, NH4-N) compared with unplanted unit. 10-day HRT unit average rates all pollutants 8-day HRT. Finally, zeolite (25%, by volume) fill material OM gravel.
