Abstract
Background
Monitoring
labs
are
a
fundamental
link
in
the
food
safety
chain,
and
regulatory
demands
competitive
economy
call
for
analytical
methods
that
simpler,
faster,
more
rugged,
broader
scope.
The
QuEChERSER
mega-method
introduced
2021
meets
these
monitoring
needs,
which
includes
high
sample
throughput,
automated
cleanup
of
extracts,
fast
low-pressure
gas
chromatography
(LPGC).
Objective
goal
this
work
was
to
extend
method
additional
matrices
analytes
using
LPGC,
including
comparison
performances
two
different
mass
spectrometric
(MS)
analyzers:
triple
quadrupole
tandem
MS/MS
orbital
ion
trap
(orbitrap)
high-resolution
(HR)MS.
Methods
validated
245
pesticides
environmental
contaminants
barley
grains
hemp
pellets
instrument
top
preparation
(ITSP)
coupled
with
LPGC-MS/MS
or
LPGC-HRMS
(orbitrap).
Results
Targeted
detection
proved
be
sensitive
than
orbitrap
full
data
acquisition,
leading
lower
limits
quantification
(LOQs)
yielding
acceptable
recoveries
(70–120%)
repeatabilities
(RSDs
<20%).
In
barley,
89%
compounds
met
validation
criteria
74%
HRMS,
were
81%
66%,
respectively.
Qualitatively,
HRMS
yielded
1%
false
positives
compared
3–4%
MS/MS,
but
due
higher
LOQs,
rates
negatives
14–17%
vs.
6–10%
matrices.
Conclusion
ITSP+LPGC
analysis
is
robust
approach
multiple
applications.
