Global kelp farming is garnering growing attention for its contributions to fishery yields, environmental remediation, and carbon neutrality efforts. Kelp systems face escalating pressures from compounded climatic stressors. A severe outbreak disaster caused extensive mortality significant economic losses in Rongcheng, China, one of the world’s largest areas. This study investigated growth physiological responses Saccharina japonica combined stressors involving three levels N:P ratios (10:1 as a control; 100:1 500:1 represent phosphorus deficiency stress) two temperature/light regimes (12 °C, 90 μmol photons m−2 s−1 control, 17 340 thermal high-light stress). The results demonstrated that significantly inhibited relative rate (24% decrease), strongest inhibition was observed at ratio with stress. algal tissue whitened due progressive disintegration under stress, coupled damage chloroplasts nucleus ultrastructures. Phosphorus-deficiency-induced declines photochemistry (27–56% decrease) chlorophyll content (63% were paradoxically transiently reversed by but this “false recovery” accelerated subsequent metabolic collapse (a 60–75% decrease loss thallus integrity). Alkaline phosphatase preferentially activated cope photothermal while acid subsequently induced provide auxiliary support. S. suppressed metabolism upregulated nucleotides deficiency; however, energy/amino acid/coenzyme pathways broad spectrum metabolites stressors, indicating employs dual adaptive strategy where scarcity triggers conservation. Thermal/light stress can override limitations activating specific compensatory pathways. findings foundation sustainable development climate changes.
